X-V-1 Experimental Heavy-Lift Platform

The X-V-1 is an experimental heavy-lift unmanned aerial system engineered for extreme payload efficiency. Its architecture targets a projected 6:1 lift-to-weight ratio through the integration of a swept delta-wing planform, advanced rotor geometry, a hybrid energy system, and active flow control. The design prioritizes high-thrust density and controlled airflow management in a compact airframe suitable for demanding logistical and operational environments.

A swept delta wing forms the primary lifting surface, providing inherent stability at higher speeds while distributing structural loads efficiently across the airframe. This configuration supports both hover and forward-flight regimes, enabling the platform to transition between vertical lift and efficient cruise without the weight penalties of conventional multi-rotor or pure fixed-wing solutions.

Toroidal rotors replace traditional open blades, generating lift through continuous annular airflow. The closed-loop geometry reduces tip losses, improves structural rigidity under high thrust, and contributes to lower acoustic signatures. Extensive iterative physical prototyping and testing of rotor geometries has substantially de-risked this core element of the lift system, advancing the design to a high level of maturity ahead of integrated flight demonstration.

Propulsion is delivered by a hybrid jet-fuel and battery drivetrain. The system combines the energy density of liquid fuel for sustained high-power segments with electric motor responsiveness for precise control and rapid power modulation. This dual-path architecture supports extended mission durations while retaining the instantaneous torque characteristics required for heavy-lift operations.

Plasma stream actuation is employed at the rotor tips to actively manage tip vortices. By introducing controlled ionized flows, the system mitigates induced drag and stabilizes the rotor wake, contributing to the targeted lift efficiency without reliance on complex mechanical variable-geometry mechanisms.

UAV Autonomous Control

Integrated Artificial Intelligence with human in the loop feedback and controls, allows full operation even in contested environments. Rated weatherproof with redundant backup systems.

Dual use for firefighting deployment utilizing a novel sonic fire suppression system negating the need for heavier payloads of limited water resources or chemical fire suppression means. Rescue operations and insertions of field personnel.
